At the end of a week-long Equinoxe screen writing conference at Chateau Beychevelle in Saint-Julien (spring, 1997), I was inducted (along with fellow writers Terry Jones, Michael Blake, Bob Gale, Guy Gallo, Frank Barhydt, Jake Lamar and Alfred Uhry) as a Commandeur d’Honneur in the Commanderie du Bontemps de Medoc et des Graves, a traditional fun-loving wine-drinking society. The ceremony involved wearing the sacred cape (I didn’t get to keep it), much solemn drumming on a wine cask, and a glass of very nice bordeaux.
